The Baylor Bears haven’t always been the model college football program. There have been times when the program has been plagued by scandal and other times when cheap Baylor football tickets were widely available because of on-field problems. However, the Bears have found their way in recent years, and now last-minute Baylor football tickets are an invitation to see one of the most compelling college football teams in the country.

Highs and Lows

For much of its history, Baylor football struggled to find sustained success. But that changed under head coach Art Briles, who took over a failing program in 2008, only to lead the Bears to 10 wins and a top-25 ranking in his fourth season. That was the same year that quarterback Robert Griffin III won the first Heisman in Baylor history, a seminal moment for the Bears. The program’s ascent continued with Baylor winning the Big 12 in both 2013 and 2014, doing so for the first time since joining the league in 1996. Alas, the Briles era ended in a scandal in which Briles was fired in disgrace, and the university president was forced to resign.

Born Again

The Bears needed to reinvent themselves after Briles was fired. Veteran coach Jim Grobe helped stabilize the program for a year before passing the reins to Matt Rhule, who performed a minor miracle during his three seasons in Waco. Baylor was 1-11 in Rhule’s first season in 2017. However, just two years later, the Bears went 11-3, reaching the Big 12 Championship Game and playing in the Sugar Bowl in one of the most stunning turnarounds in college football history, a sign that Baylor football is here to stay.
