About the Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers Tickets

The Carolina Panthers may be one of the best examples in all of the sports for how to launch a franchise. Even though they’ve never (yet) made it to the top of the mountain, their quick ascent and propensity for bouncing back from adversity have made them an exemplary franchise throughout their history.

Meteoric Rise

In terms of wins and losses, the Panthers are the best expansion franchise in NFL history. Under head coach Dom Capers, Carolina went 7-9 in their first season, better than any other expansion team. They followed that up the following year with a 12-4 record, a division title, and a trip to the NFC Championship Game, matching their expansion brothers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who played in the AFC Championship Game in their second season as well.

Alas, the Panthers struggled to maintain that success, experiencing a six-year playoff drought. But they proved themselves capable of bouncing back. Two years after a 1-15 campaign in 2001, Carolina reached the Super Bowl for the first time, losing a close 32-29 game to the Patriots.

It’s Cam Time

The Panthers faced adversity again in 2010, finishing the season 2-14. They soon hired Ron Rivera as their new head coach and the following year drafted Cam Newton first overall in the NFL Draft, ushering in a new era for the franchise. After some initial growing pains, the Newton and Rivera tandem soon would go on to win three straight NFC South titles, culminating in a 15-1 season in 2015 and a trip to Super Bowl 50.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, they fell short in that Super Bowl. However, while the push for Carolina’s first championship continues, the journey thus far has been nothing short of compelling.
