Sometimes Justin, or 3LAU, has to play three shows in one day. Those shows won’t necessarily be in the same city or even state. With demand like that, it would be easy for him to let the computer do most of the work, performing the same set three times.

But that’s not who 3LAU is. Not only does he reject the idea of “easy,” but he will sometimes have ideas of what to play and change his plan when he’s already at the venue. His dedication to his fan and creating a unique experience for everyone that pays money to see him is impressive – and we thank him for it!

Early Life

3LAU was born Justin Lau to two pretty creative parents in a small town in New York State. He learned guitar and piano as a kid, which set the stage for his musical career. After spending most of his young formative years in NY, his family moved to Las Vegas when Justin was 13.

Vegas made an impression on him, as he states it’s still his home (in between tours), today. Sweden is another place that’s important to Justin, as it’s where he discovered EDM in 2011. It was that trip that piqued his interest in making electronic music and put him on the path he’s on today.

Career Goals

In 2011 and 2012, Justin put out music on his YouTube channel. He was mashing up other people’s songs and making his own sampled mixes. He put out his first EP, Dance Floor Filth, which got played by some serious EDM names.

That got the attention of the Dim Mak Label, who allowed him to put out his first true studio track, “Vikings.” And with that – his career took off. Who could have known that the young boy from New York State/Las Vegas would be a world-famous DJ? The universe works in mysterious ways.
