About the Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills Tickets

There are few fans in pro sports that know heartbreak like Buffalo Bills’ fans. Yes, Bills loyalists deserve all the credit in the world for never losing faith. Each year, they show up in the bitter cold and snow, rooting for their team and clinging to hope for a bright future. Color us impressed.

The Wrong Side of History

It’s impossible to talk about the Bills without mentioning the 1990-93 seasons. During that time, the Bills became the first and only team in NFL history to win a conference championship in four consecutive seasons. Under legendary coach Marv Levy, as well as a strong core of players that included quarterback Jim Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, and defensive end Bruce Smith, the Bills became one of the preeminent teams in the NFL, despite playing in one of its smallest markets.

Alas, their luck always seemed to run out after championship weekend. The Bills infamously lost four consecutive Super Bowls in the early ‘90s, becoming the only team in NFL history with that not-so-brag-worthy track record. The first of those four losses was arguably the most painful, as it included a missed field goal by Scott Norwood in the waning seconds, securing a 20-19 win for the Giants in Super Bowl XXV. Ouch.

The Longest Drought

If losing four consecutive Super Bowls wasn’t painful enough, the Bills suffered another low point after reaching the playoffs in 1999. Buffalo  was up 16-15 on a late field goal and appeared to be on their way to the next round. However, the Tennessee Titans scored on the following kickoff in a play that has become known as the Music City Miracle because it included a cross-field lateral pass from Frank Wycheck to Kevin Dyson, who proceeded to run 75 yards for the game-winning score.

That fateful game started what would become a 17-year playoff drought for the Bills, a stretch that included just two winning seasons until rookie head coach Sean McDermott took Buffalo to the playoffs in 2017. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the team is on the up-and-up or will merely slip back into their rut. The only thing we know for sure is that Bills fans will continue to keep the faith.
