About the Indiana Football

Indiana Football Tickets

Not too many fans will confuse the Indiana Hoosiers with one of the powerhouse programs of the Big Ten. Compared to their conference foes, it’s relatively easy to find cheap Indiana football tickets. However, the Hoosiers aren’t some perennial doormat either. Indiana has had plenty of proud moments in its football history. In fact, the Hoosiers have been showing signs of a resurgence in recent years, making last-minute Indiana football tickets worth the cost of admission.

Reaching the Top

Sustained success hasn’t been easy for Indiana, but the Hoosiers have had their moments at the top. In 1945, IU finished 9-0-1 under Hall of Fame head coach Bo McMillin, winning the first conference championship in school history and finishing the season ranked no. 4 in the country. The Hoosiers captured the Big Ten title again in 1967, finishing the season 9-2 following a loss to USC in IU’s first-ever Rose Bowl appearance.

Bill Finds a Way

IU experienced an uptick in success in the 1980s and early 90s under head coach Bill Mallory. After going 0-11 in his first season in 1984, Mallory guided IU to a bowl game just two years later, the program’s second bowl game since winning the Big Ten in 1967. Under Mallory, the Hoosiers would go to a bowl game six times in the next eight seasons and even finished the season ranked in the top-25 twice during that span. Mallory’s success, while brief, proved that the Hoosiers could build a winning football program.

The Wheels are in Motion

Not long ago, the Hoosiers found themselves in need of another revitalization project, playing in just one bowl game between 1994 and 2014. After coaching a 1-11 team in his first season, head coach Kevin Wilson started to turn the tide at IU, taking the Hoosiers to bowl games in both 2015 and 2016. After Wilson left in a controversial fashion, defensive coordinator Tom Allen became head coach and kept the ball rolling for the Hoosiers. In 2019, Allen led IU to an 8-win season, the most for the Hoosiers since 1993, serving as a strong indication that the program is moving in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Does Indiana Football Play?

Since 1960, the Hoosiers have played their home games on campus at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. After a series of upgrades and expansions, the stadium currently has a capacity of over 52,000 fans. Memorial Stadium is sometimes nicknamed “The Rock” because of a limestone boulder called “Hep’s Rock” that sits near the north end zone. In 2005, former head coach Terry Hoeppner began a tradition in which Indiana players touch the rock before running onto the field at the start of every home game.
