West Virginia Football Tickets
In all of college football, there might not be a more passionate fanbase than that of the West Virginia Mountaineers. Cheap West Virginia football tickets are virtually non-existent because everyone in the state wants to see the Mountaineers play. It’s also a program with a history of success and bitter rivalries, which means every game means something. Fans who are able to get their hands on last-minute West Virginia football tickets should consider themselves lucky to be part of something special.
Long List of Rivals
For most of its history, West Virginia has been an independent football program, which has allowed the Mountaineers to develop several rivalries. An in-state rivalry with Marshall and a border war with Pitt, known as the Backyard Brawl, are West Virginia’s two most intense rivalries. However, the Mountaineers also have rivalry games that involve trophies with both Syracuse and Virginia, as well as bitter rivalries with the likes of Penn State, Maryland, Louisville, and Iowa State. There’s also no telling when the Mountaineers will develop another rivalry.
Beasts of the Big East
West Virginia was always a great independent and even dominated the Southern Conference for much of the 1950s and 60s. But the Mountaineers reached new levels after joining the Big East. That’s when West Virginia built some of its best rivalries and started to become a perennial top-25 team. Between 2003 and 2011, the Mountaineers walked away with at least a share of the Big East title six times in nine seasons. They also finished among the top-10 in the polls in 2005, 2006, and 2007, winning a school-record 11 games in each season.
On the Move
College football’s reshuffling ended up sending the Mountaineers to the Big 12 in 2012. But West Virginia was more than ready for the challenge. While there was some adjustment required, the Mountaineers continued to receive bowl invitations and be a top-25 caliber program, a strong indication that bright days are ahead in Morgantown.
