About the San Diego State Football

San Diego State Football Tickets

Small-conference teams in college football don’t always get the respect they deserve, but the San Diego State Aztecs are one team that garners a lot of attention. They’ve long had a loyal fanbase, which can make cheap San Diego State football tickets hard to find. More importantly, SDSU also has a winning pedigree with the conference championships to back it up. They might never be a national championship contender, but the Aztecs are among the best Group of Five programs in the country, and scoring last-minute San Diego State football tickets is a great experience for any college football fan on the West Coast.

Before the Big Time

Before the Aztecs played at the FBS level, they enjoyed plenty of success at the lower levels of college football. San Diego State won back-to-back California Collegiate Athletic Association titles in 1966 and 1967 before moving to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (now called the Big West) and winning five conference titles in a span of seven years. Eventually, the Aztecs were invited to join the Western Athletic Conference, putting them on the track to play Big-Time College Football, getting a little help from Marshall Faulk, who’s Heisman runner-up campaign in 1992 helped put San Diego State on the college football map.

Rocky’s Rise

In 2010, head coach Brady Hoke led San Diego State to its first bowl game in over a decade. The next year, Rocky Long took over as head coach when Hoke left and soon took the Aztecs to another level. In his nine seasons, Long led San Diego State to nine more bowl games and three Mountain West championships, averaging nine wins per season during that span. He made the Aztecs a mid-major power, and after stepping down following the 2019 season, the program was handed back to Hoke, who aims to pick up where he left off in 2010 with the Aztecs on the rise.
