What would you consider the best part of Disney Plus? Is it the Disney Channel Original movies that you haven’t seen since childhood? If so, you probably remember Aly & AJ from their Disney Channel Days.

It’s where they got their biggest boost of success from, for sure, but it wasn’t the first step in their journey towards stardom. Given how beautiful they are (and the fact that they’ve both modeled), you could say that they’ve been stars since birth. Or, if you want to be more realistic, it was as pre-teens, when their parents encouraged them to learn musical instruments. The sisters, whose full names are Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka, are lucky to have parents who were willing to invest in their success.

From Seattle to SoCal

Pretty much everything in “the industry” happens in Southern California. And as soon as the girls started booking small but consistent acting roles, their parents knew it was time to relocate. And it was a good choice! It was after moving to LA that Alyson landed a supporting character role on a Disney Channel show, Phil of the Future. Ps, Disney, when is that going to be streaming?

Alyson’s Disney career gave her the platform to perform music with her sister, as the two always play as a duo. In the early 2000s, you could find their music videos on Disney Channel, between commercial breaks.

Don’t Go Changing (Your Tune, Girls!)

While the bulk of Aly & AJ’s success came in the 2000s, they ‘ve started to make a comeback. After an almost-ten-year break, the two put out a single “Take Me,” to test the musical waters, again. It went well enough for them to release two singles in 2019, and we’re waiting for their “reunion” album to come out. It should be any day now!
