About the Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks Tickets

The Seattle Seahawks are one of the most unique teams in the NFL. They're also isolated – located in the Pacific Northwest, they're based over 800 miles from the nearest NFL team. Despite only joining the NFL in 1976, the Seahawks have played in both the NFC and AFC, and they're known for having one of the loudest fan bases in football. Fans have ever set a Guinness World Record for stadium noise on multiple occasions.

The AFC Days

The Seahawks started out in the AFC West in the mid-'70s. Geographically it made sense, but the Seahawks never seemed to quite fit in with the rest of the division. They developed a modest rivalry with Denver, but the Seahawks never had an intense rivalry with one of their division foes the way the Broncos, Chiefs, and Raiders had amongst one another.

Success on the field was also hard to come by during Seattle’s days in the AFC. Chuck Knox guided the team to the playoffs four times in his nine seasons, including a trip to the AFC Championship Game in 1983. But the Seahawks had just two division titles and five playoff appearances in a quarter-century in the AFC.

The NFC Days

In 2002, the NFL moved the Seahawks from the AFC West to the NFC West, and things got better for the Seahawks almost immediately. Part of Seattle’s success in the NFC is likely due to having head coaches like Mike Holmgren and Pete Carroll. But the switch was definitely the turning point for the Seahawks finding success on the field.

Under Holmgren, the Seahawks won four straight division titles from 2004 to 2007 and reached the Super Bowl for the first time. Carroll eventually took the reins and cultivated one of the most intimidating defenses in the NFL has seen in recent years. Behind that defense and quarterback Russell Wilson, the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII to capture their first-ever championship and were one heartbreaking play away from repeating as champions, only to lose in the Super Bowl the following season.
