Lauryn, The Fugees, And Her Grammys

Lauryn was born Lauryn Noelle Hill to two working-class parents in Easy Orange, New Jersey in 1975. She was interested in singing her whole life and was performing on stage at the tender age of 13. That performing helped her meet her future bandmates, Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean, who ended up becoming the Fugees in the early ’90s. Their second album, The Score, won Hill and her group two Grammys and made them the highest-selling rap group of all time (at that time).

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

The Fugees only ever put out two albums. The two male parts of the band were willing to make more, but Lauryn had other plans. Those plans were to put out The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her debut solo album. That album won her five Grammy awards, bringing her total to 7 before she was even 30 years old. That album is still talked about today, but Hill rarely performs. She has said that being a celebrity wasn’t for her and that she likes to live life out of the limelight. That’s what makes her upcoming tour so special – it’s a rare occurrence.
