Sometimes luck plays a part in the making of a successful music artist, though that’s not to say talent doesn’t matter. Anuel AA was lucky to be born to his father, Jose Gazmey, who just so happened to work for Sony Music Entertainment.

Since Anuel can remember, music has always played a key role in his life. That’s why it surprised no one when he started posting songs online in 2010. It was almost like the powers that be wanted him to go into music.But no one could predict just how successful he would be and the amount of talent that was lying just under the surface.

Puerto Rican Pride

Anuel is as Puerto Rican as they come, and he doesn’t try to hide it in his music. There’s a clear undercurrent of Latin sounds and rhythms in his songs, along with a sprinkling of reggaeton and hip hop.

Maybe it’s this unique mix of sounds that people love so much, or perhaps it’s that he knows what people want before they know themselves. Whatever the reason, it got him noticed worldwide and by musician and producer Rick Ross. With Ross’ help, he released his first mixtape in 2016, which was inarguably successful. Unfortunately for him, he was arrested on gun charges shortly after that.

Not Stopping Now

Though he was in jail for charges that his fans don’t think are fair, he managed to release music still. Thankfully he had songs he could have his team pull from that he’d pre-recorded, but when those ran out, he decided to use his time on the inside to make more. But how does he get these new songs out, you ask? Through in-prison phone calls and with the help of a talented recording team. Talk about being dedicated to your craft.

After his release from jail in December 2016, he went on to create more music. Now that he was out of jail, he recorded with other nationally recognized names. His album, Real Hasta La Muerte, won him both airtime and awards from the Billboard Latin Music Awards. It seems that everything he touches turns to musical gold!
