About Cody Johnson

Cody Johnson Tickets

Some people walk the walk, some talk the talk, but few do both at the same time. Cody Johnson is one of those few – only he didn’t just walk the walk and talk the talk, he rode the bull and won prizes at the rodeo.

That’s to say, Cody Johnson isn’t just someone who can figure out what words to put in a country song – he has the experience to back those words up. And while he lived the country-singer life and always made music on the side, he started out his professional career as a prison guard, before deciding to pursue music full time. While being a prison guard is a hard and respectable job, our ears are happy Cody changed his mind.

Early Life

Cody was born in a small town in East Texas, which just adds to our argument that he’s a true country star, in 1987. His whole family is musical, though none of them pursued music professionally. He learned to play guitar at 12 years old and had his own little “bands”, throughout high school. And while those were fun, young Cody thought his true calling was the 6-second adrenaline rush that is bull-riding. We’re sure his mama is happy he chose the less dangerous hobby to pursue full time.

Professional Success

Cody put out his first album, by himself, in 2006. He then decided to bring some friends into the mix and formed the Cody Johnson band. They played around texas for the next couple of years, until their breakthrough to the major music charts in 2014. That breakthrough album, Cowboy Like Me, charted at number seven on the Billboard Country Albums chart. His successive albums have done just as well, if not better, than Cowboy Like Me, cementing Cody’s status as a Country music star.
