The word boogie is not used nearly enough as it should be. It’s a great word – even though it kinda makes us think of our dads. But if you’re A Boogie wit da Hoodie fan, your dad is probably pretty far from your mind when you’re jamming out to his funk trap.

What you may not know about Boogie is that he founded his own record company Highbridge the Label in 2015, when he was about 19 years old. Impressive, right? It seems that growing up (mostly) in the Bronx cemented a kind of hustle in him that only New York can.

Early Life

Usually, an artists’ stage name is stranger than their given name. Boogie is an exception to this rule. His given name is Artist Dubose. That, in retrospect, may have set him up for the creative success he enjoys today. He was born in the Bronx but spent some time in Florida as a teen. The sunshine state didn’t sit well with him, and he got back to the Bronx as soon as he could.

Pretty much as soon as he got back, in 2015, he started his record label with his friend, Quincy “QP” Acheampong. He put out his first mixtape just a few months later, which had two certified platinum singles. Talk about getting stuff done!

The Bigger Artist

With his mixtape so successful, Boogie put out his first true album in 2017. It featured Trey Songz, Chris Brown, and Robin Thicke (to name a few) and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Album chart. Can Boogie do anything wrong? Not that we know of. Not only does he keep putting out fire singles (and a new album, soon, we hope!), but he makes time to be on other artists’ tracks as well.
