Atmosphere
Most people probably don’t think of Minnesota as a hotspot for hip-hop music. However, Minneapolis happens to be the hometown of one of the great underground hip-hop groups of all time, Atmosphere. Of course, with a dozen albums and counting under their belt, Atmosphere is far from a thing of the past. They are still going strong as both recording artists and touring musicians. The duet of rapper Slug (Sean Daley) and producer/DJ Ant (Anthony Davis) perfectly complement one another in creating a group that has found plenty of success and longevity despite being an underground group. Naturally, as an underground group, there are still plenty of people who have yet to discover just how special it is to see Atmosphere perform live.
Fun Collaborations
While they may not be a household name, Atmosphere has found its way into the studio with plenty of other musicians. Slug and Ant are ideal collaborators for other groups, as they always bring someone special to the table that other hip-hop acts want to incorporate into their music. Over the years, Atmosphere has collaborated with other acts, including KRS-ONE, Aesop Rock, Jean Grae, Brother Ali, the X-Ecutioners, and countless others. Those collaborations have not only given Atmosphere added credibility but also the pedigree and experience to make their music the best it can be.
Always Another Tour
Since their early days as a group in the 1990s, Atmosphere has rarely gone long periods without touring. In fact, it’s the group’s propensity for touring and playing live shows that have helped make Atmosphere such a prominent underground act. Non-stop touring has allowed Slug and Ant to hone their skills while also being creative and experimenting. It has allowed Atmosphere to connect with audiences, especially with its deep and introspective lyrics. Atmosphere is undoubtedly one of the rare groups that loves its fans just as much as its fans love them, making this an underground hip-hop group that more people need to experience in person.
