About the Louisville Football

Louisville Football Tickets

The history of Louisville football is a wild one. Finding cheap Louisville football tickets has always been a challenge because the Cardinals have always attracted great coaches and star players. Plus, they’ve spent most of the last 20 years slowly becoming a program that’s relevant on the national stage. Nowadays, fans are lucky if they can find last-minute Louisville tickets to see a team that believes it can compete for championships.

From One League to the Next

The Louisville football program has bounced around from one conference to another throughout its history, a journey that has coincided with its rise up the college football hierarchy. The Cardinals were an independent team until latching on with the Missouri Valley Conference in 1963, winning two conference titles before going independent again in 1975. Louisville joined Conference USA in 1996, ultimately winning three titles in a five-year span before joining the Big East. The Cardinals spent eight seasons in the Big East, winning the conference crown three times. In 2014, Louisville found a new home in the ACC, a move that secured the Cardinals a chance to be in the spotlight.

The Bobby Boost

The Cardinals started to make a serious move up the college football food chain when Bobby Petrino was hired as head coach in 2003. He turned Louisville into a top-10 team in his second season. He was with the Cardinals when they moved to the Big East and two years later won both the conference title and the Orange Bowl, finishing the season sixth in the polls. Petrino left Louisville after that Orange Bowl win, only to return in 2014 when the Cardinals entered the ACC on the heels of a 12-1 campaign under Charlie Strong. Petrino continued to work his magic, ultimately giving Louisville its first-ever Heisman winner Lamar Jackson in 2017. It was a sign of just how far the Cardinals had come and that any accomplishment is possible for Louisville football.
