About the Oklahoma State Football

Oklahoma State Football Tickets

In college football, it’s hard to be both entertaining and consistent, but the Oklahoma State Cowboys have managed to do just that. Whether or not fans can find cheap Oklahoma State football tickets, the high-scoring games the Cowboys tend to play are always worth the price of admission. On top of that, the program has developed into one of the most consistent in the Big 12 and in the country during the 21st century. The Cowboys may not be a national power, but they are always relevant, always going to bowl games, and always finishing with a winning record. That’s not easy to do, which is why last-minute Oklahoma State football tickets always seem to be in high demand.

The Early Days

While Oklahoma State doesn’t have a storied tradition, the Cowboys did have a nice run during the 1940s under head coach Jim Lookabaugh. After playing football, basketball, and baseball at what was then known as Oklahoma A&M, Lookabaugh coached the Cowboys from 1939 to 1949. During that time, he led the program to three conference championships and a perfect 9-0 season in 1945, eventually giving the Cowboys a retroactive national championship. It was the best era during the 20th century outside of Pappy Waldorf leading the Cowboys to three conference titles between 1930 and 1933.

21st Century Cowboys

After the turn of the century, Oklahoma State emerged from mediocrity to become a winning program. Les Miles got things started, taking OSU to bowl games in three straight seasons from 2002 to 2004 after the Cowboys went to just one bowl game in the previous 13 seasons. Miles passed the reins to Mike Gundy, who took them and never looked back. In every year but his first season, Gundy guided the Cowboys to a bowl game. His tenure has included over half a dozen seasons in which Oklahoma State won at least ten games. That includes the 12-1 season in 2011 when the Cowboys won their first conference championship since 1976, proving that Oklahoma State is capable of having a top-flight football program.
