Michigan State Football
There are a lot of powerhouse football programs in the Big Ten, and the Michigan State Spartans are surely one of them. Cheap Michigan State football tickets have been in short supply, especially in recent years. Even if the Spartans are sometimes overshadowed by their rivals, they remain an elite program with a proud history. Of course, no matter the state of the program, getting last-minute Michigan State football tickets is always a joy for Spartans fans.
Glory Days in Green
Michigan State’s glory days on the gridiron came back in the 1950s and 60s. Head coach Clarence Munn led the Spartans to back-to-back undefeated seasons and back-to-back national championships in 1951 and 1952. Those were also MSU’s final seasons before joining the Big Ten. Naturally, the Spartans won the Big Ten title and went to the Rose Bowl in their first season in the conference. Munn then passed the reins to longtime assistant Duffy Daugherty, who proceeded to win national championships at Michigan State in 1955 and 1957 and then later going back-to-back in 1965 and 1966. In a quarter-century under Munn and Daughterty, both Hall of Famers, the Spartans won six national championships, establishing Michigan State as a national program.
The Dantonio Decade
Of course, after dominating during the 1950s and 60s, Michigan State had some ups and downs in the decades to come. However, the arrival of Mark Dantonio in 2007 brought some much-needed stability to MSU and brought pride back to the program. Over the next decade, Dantonio led the Spartans to three Big Ten championships over a six-year stretch that also included a Rose Bowl win, a Cotton Bowl win, and a spot in the College Football Playoff. In Dantonio’s 13 seasons, the Spartans went to 12 bowl games and won at least 10 games six times, laying down the foundation for Michigan State to remain a contender in the Big Ten for a long time to come.
