About the Maryland Football

Maryland Football Tickets

The South has always had a proud football history, and one team that often gets lost in the shuffle is the Maryland Terrapins. Granted, cheap Maryland football tickets have become a little more common in recent years with the team’s struggles. However, the program has a lot of pride and a winning tradition. More importantly, it’s still a treat for college football fans to score last-minute Maryland football tickets to see the Terrapins in person.

Charting a Course

Maryland was a charter member of the ACC when the league formed in 1953. Oddly enough, that was the same year as the school’s only national championship (at least that they claim). The Terrapins also won the first-ever ACC football championship that season and won their second ACC crown two years later. Maryland football caught fire again in the 1970s under Jerry Claiborne, who led the Terps to three straight conference titles from 1974 to 1976, making Maryland a top-20 team nationally in the process. Bobby Ross accomplished a similar feat a decade later, leading the Terps to ACC championships in 1983, 1984, and 1985.

Big Ten Trouble

After more than 60 years in the ACC, Maryland left for the Big Ten in 2014, a move that changed the course of its football program. Rather than competing with regional rivals, the Terrapins now compete in the same division as national heavyweights like Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. It was a difficult transition for Maryland that was made more challenging by multiple coaching changes. But the Terrapins have faced difficult times before and always seem to find their way. After all, Terrapins believe that slow and steady wins the race, so it’s just a matter of time until Maryland becomes a genuine contender in the Big Ten.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Does Maryland Football Play?

The Terrapins play their home games in the aptly named Maryland Stadium. It’s an on-campus stadium located in College Park, Maryland, less than 10 miles from Washington D.C. The venue has been the home of Maryland football since 1950 and was originally known as Byrd Stadium until the student body forced the university to change its name in 2015. Maryland Stadium has undergone several renovations to modernize the venue and increase capacity. It currently has a capacity of over 51,000 fans.
