Liberty Football Tickets
The Liberty Flames are the new kids on the block in college football. The program only dates back to 1973, and for much of that time, it was easy to find cheap Liberty football tickets. However, things are changing. The Flames made the jump to the FBS level in 2018 and played in their first bowl game in 2019. While they remain an independent team, the Flames appear to have a bright future ahead of them, making last-minute Liberty football tickets a hot commodity.
Early Days
Liberty began playing football in 1973 and was a solid program right off the bat at the NAIA and Division 2 levels. In 1988, the Flames made the jump to the 1-AA (now FCS) level and experienced immediate success, putting together winning seasons in seven of their first 10 years.
The Big Time
In 2002, Liberty received an invitation to join the Big South Conference, which was a big step forward for the program. Despite some initial struggles, the Flames started to turn things around when Danny Rocco took over as head coach in 2006. Starting in 2007, Rocco led Liberty to five straight Big South titles, making the Flames a perennial top-25 program at the FCS level. When Turner Gill succeeded Rocco as head coach in 2012, Liberty’s dominance in the Big South continued. Under Gill, the Flames won the conference championship four times from 2012 to 2016 and made their first FCS Playoffs appearance in 2014.
Freeze Warning
After Gill retired, the Flames turned to Hugh Freeze to take them to the next level. In Freeze’s first season in 2019, Liberty hosted a power conference team for the first time in school history, a major milestone in program history. Despite losing that game to Syracuse, the Flames went on to finish the regular season 7-5, earning a bowl invitation, another first for the program. Liberty capped off the 2019 season with a win over Georgia Southern in the Cure Bowl, setting the stage for further growth in the years to come.
