North Texas Football Tickets
Few states love college football more than Texas, and the North Texas Mean Green is a big part of that. As a mid-major program, it’s a little easier to find cheap North Texas football tickets than it is for other Texas schools. But that just means the entertainment value for the Mean Green is sky-high. Keep in mind that North Texas football has been on the ascendency for a long time, with the Mean Green working their way up from humble beginnings. As a result, North Texas is one of the top football programs in the Lone Star State, meaning that last-minute North Texas football tickets are always in high demand.
Starting Small
Even though everything is bigger in Texas, North Texas football started small. Yet, the Mean Green was always a successful program while playing at the lower levels of college football. Between 1932 and 1974, North Texas bounced around between the Lone Star Conference, Gulf Coast Conference, and the Missouri Valley Conference, winning 18 conference championships. During that time, Hall of Fame linebacker Mean Joe Greene played for the Mean Green, becoming the most famous player in North Texas history.
Down But Not Out
North Texas football performed so well in the lower level that the Mean Green made the leap to the FBS level in 1975. But financial trouble in the athletic department forced North Texas to return to the FCS level in 1982. However, the Mean Green would be undeterred, returning to the FBS level in 1995. Since then, North Texas football has continued to climb the ladder. The Mean Green had immediate success in the Sun Belt Conference after joining the league in 2001. From there, North Texas joined Conference USA and ultimately the American Athletic Conference after becoming a perennial bowl game participant under head coach Seth Littrell. Under Littrell, the Mean Green blossomed into one of the country's best mid-major programs, with the sky being the limit for the future of UNT football.
