The Eagles aren’t exactly a well-known program in the college football landscape. However, North Carolina Central won a share of the Black College National Championship in 1954. But North Carolina Central did start to make a little noise in the 21st century. North Carolina Central football started to reach new heights in 2010 when the Eagles rejoined the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after more than four decades away. That move was a precursor to making a move to the FCS level. After making that move, success was almost instantaneous for the Eagles, who won at least a share of the MEAC in three straight years starting in 2014. For other programs, that might not mean much, but for a small-time program like North Carolina Central, it was everything. More importantly, it was proof that the Eagles belonged in the MEAC and will be a force to be reckoned with in that conference for many years to come.
