More About Auburn Basketball
For pure football schools like Auburn, basketball is often overlooked and forgotten about. For many years, cheap Auburn basketball tickets were available in mass quantities. But that doesn’t mean things are going to be like that forever. The Tigers aren’t one of the blue-bloods of the sport, but they’ve had some good teams over the years. More recently, the program has come alive and appears to have plenty of staying power, meaning fans are lucky if they can find last-minute Auburn basketball tickets.
Sir Charles
While Auburn hasn’t had a lot of team success, the Tigers have had their fair share of standout players. None have been more important in Auburn history than Barkley, who played from 1981 to 1984. His final season in 1984 became Auburn’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Barkley then passed the torch to Chuck Person, who was a two-time All-American and led the Tigers to their first Sweet 16 in 1985 and their first Elite Eight in 1986.
Mother of Pearl
In 2014, Auburn had the great fortune of hiring Bruce Pearl as head coach. Pearl was an accomplished coach who fell on hard times and was looking to resuscitate his career with the Tigers. After a few rough years, Pearl did that and then some, winning a share of the SEC title and getting Auburn back to the NCAA Tournament in 2018. A year later, Pearl coached the Tigers to the Final Four for the first time in school history. Not only was it an amazing accomplishment for a basketball program that has always been overshadowed by Auburn’s football team, but it also set the stage for great things to come.
