North Texas Basketball Tickets
For college basketball fans who love mid-majors, the North Texas Mean Green is a program to watch closely in the years to come. The days of cheap North Texas basketball tickets being widely available have come to an end. The Mean Green is now a proud member of Conference USA and a program on the rise. While they are still lacking in history and accomplishments, the demand for last-minute UNT basketball tickets is on the rise and it’s just a matter of time until they become one of the top mid-major programs in the country.
Just the Beginning
The Mean Green experienced success for the first time in the 1970s under head coach Bill Blakeley. As an independent, the Mean Green went 65-14 over three seasons from 1975 to 1978. A decade later, head coach Jimmy Gates led UNT to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history after winning the Southland Conference championship.
Big Moves
The turn of the century was kind to North Texas, as Johnny Jones took over as the program’s new head coach in 2001. After doing a little rebuilding, Jones was able to guide the Mean Green back to the NCAA Tournament in both 2007 and 2010 as members of the Sun Belt Conference. While neither appearance resulted in a victory, the success under Jones moved the program another step forward.
Mean Green World
The Mean Green took another step forward in 2013 when they joined Conference USA. It was tough sledding at first in a conference full of quality basketball programs. But after taking over in 2017, head coach Grant McCasland has North Texas back on track. The Mean Green won the CBI championship in 2018, setting the stage for UNT to win the Conference USA regular-season title in 2020, announcing to the college basketball world that the Mean Green will be a team to watch closely moving forward.
