Grand Canyon Basketball Tickets
In college basketball, it seems like there is always room for one more mid-major looking to make a name for themselves. It seems like the Grand Canyon Antelopes could be next in line to do just that. For now, cheap Grand Canyon basketball tickets are still available. However, with the program’s quick ascendency inside the Western Athletic Conference, that may not be the case much longer. The Antelopes are quickly developing a reputation for a mid-major that needs to be taken seriously, increasing the demand for last-minute Grand Canyon basketball tickets.
Up the Ladder
For much of Grand Canyon’s basketball history, the Antelopes played against lower levels of competition. Of course, they did so with great success. The Antelopes won three national championships at the NAIA level in 1975, 1978, and 1988. In the 1990s, GCU moved to the Division II level and continued to have success there, going to the NCAA Tournament 10 times from 1992 to 2013.
On the Big Stage
In 2013, the Antelopes made the leap to the Division I level, hiring Phoenix Suns legend Dan Majerle as head coach. Grand Canyon immediately became one of the best teams in the Western Athletic Conference and played in a postseason tournament five times in six seasons. In 2020, Majerle was replaced by Bryce Drew, who instantly took Grand Canyon to another level. In his first season at GCU, Drew guided the Antelopes to the WAC regular-season and tournament titles, sending Grand Canyon to the Division I NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. It was a monumental step in the right direction for Grand Canyon, establishing the Antelopes as one of the great up-and-coming mid-major programs in college basketball.
