Texas A&M Basketball Tickets
Traditionally, Texas A&M has been a football school. The Aggies have always had a great following on the gridiron, but in comparison, it’s always been easy to find cheap Texas A&M basketball tickets. But that has started to change since the turn of the century. The Aggies have found a little success on the basketball court, bringing their passionate fanbase along for the ride. Nowadays, last-minute Texas A&M basketball tickets are as popular as they’ve ever been, and the best may be yet to come.
Metcalf Magic
Shelby Metcalf is easily the most important figure in the history of Texas A&M basketball. He coached the Aggies from 1963 to 1990 and took the program to new heights. In his second season, Metcalf led the Aggies to the Southwest Conference championship and the program’s second trip to the NCAA Tournament. When all was said and done, the Aggies won six conference championships under Metcalf and made the NCAA Tournament five times.
Billy the Kid
After Metcalf was let go in 1990, Texas A&M experienced a prolonged dark period, much like the Aggies experienced before Metcalf. However, Billy Gillispie changed all of that. In 2004, he took over a program that was 7-21 the previous season, and three years later, he took Texas A&M to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1980. Of course, Gillispie left after that season, with Mark Turgeon maintaining the program’s consistency, taking the Aggies back to the NCAA Tournament in four straight seasons.
Feel the Buzz
In 2019, Texas native Buzz Williams took over the Aggies. Rather than trying to find an up and coming coach, Texas A&M had finally landed an experienced and accomplished coach. Despite inheriting a program that had been to the Sweet 16 twice in the previous four seasons, Williams had some work to do when he arrived in College Station. However, there is little doubt that Williams is the right choice to take Texas A&M basketball to the next level.
