Maryland Basketball Tickets
They say the state of Maryland does two things: crab cakes and football. But on the basketball court, the Maryland Terrapins are proving that there should be a third item on that list. For years, cheap Maryland basketball tickets have been a welcome treat for folks in the Chesapeake Bay State. The Terps may not have a vast number of championship banners hanging from the rafters, but they’ve found plenty of ways to make some noise in the college basketball landscape over the years. More importantly, they remain a relevant part of the college basketball world, making last-minute Maryland basketball tickets a treat for any fan of the game.
Slow and Steady
As a basketball program, Maryland hit its stride in the 1970s after Lefty Driesell took over as head coach. The Terrapins made two trips to the Elite Eight early in Driesell’s tenure, and by the end of the 1970s, Maryland was making a postseason appearance in virtually every season. In the 1990s, Gary Williams took over as head coach and helped take Maryland to another level. Slowly but surely, the Terrapins moved into the upper-echelon of the ACC, culminating in back-to-back trips to the Final Four in 2001 and 2002, including the first national championship in program history in 2002. Williams carried that success well into the 21st century, which is why the court at the Xfinity Center is named after him.
Big Move
In 2014, Maryland left its longtime home in the ACC for the Big Ten. The Terrapins adjusted to the move quickly under head coach Mark Turgeon, regularly finishing in the top half of the conference standings and working their way into the NCAA Tournament. Geographically, being in the Big Ten doesn’t make a lot of sense for Maryland, but the Terrapins have made it their new home and are set up to have long-term success as a member of the Big Ten.
