South Carolina Basketball Tickets
In the Southeast, most schools are more known for football than baseball. However, the South Carolina Gamecocks are one of the few exceptions. Since the program’s glory days during the 1970s, cheap South Carolina basketball tickets have been difficult to find. A surprise run to the Final Four in 2017 only reinvigorated a fanbase that was eager to cheer for a winner. As a result, last-minute South Carolina basketball tickets are more in demand than ever.
The First Frank
South Carolina’s history of success on the hardwood dates back to the 1920s and 30s when the Gamecocks won several Southern Conference championships. However, the arrival of head coach Frank McGuire in 1964 on the tail end of a Hall of Fame career helped to elevate South Carolina basketball. While it took some time, McGuire ultimately led the Gamecocks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history in 1971. That same year, South Carolina won its second straight ACC title before leaving the conference. The 1971 campaign was also the first of four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and three straight trips to the Sweet 16 under McGuire.
The Second Frank
The Gamecocks fell off the map for a little while after McGuire’s success in the early 1970s. They made just four NCAA Tournament appearances from 1975 to 2004. But South Carolina got an injection of life in 2012 with the arrival of head coach Frank Martin. Known for his passion and intensity, Martin gave South Carolina instant credibility. Four years into his tenure, Martin helped the Gamecocks finish third in the SEC and reach the NIT. A year later, Martin guided South Carolina on an unlikely run to the Final Four, the first in program history. It was a sign that the Gamecocks are capable of reaching the big stage.
