About the Miami (OH) Basketball
Miami (FL) Basketball Tickets
While mostly known as a football school, the Miami Hurricanes mix it up a little on the basketball court too. The good news is that compared to the football team, it’s relatively easy for fans to find cheap Miami basketball tickets. Of course, that has slowly started to change. During the 21st century, the Hurricanes have been a frequent NCAA Tournament participant and an occasional contender in the ACC, increasing the demand for last-minute Miami basketball tickets.
Reborn
The Hurricanes had a rather unheralded basketball history before Miami dropped the sport altogether in 1971. Fortunately, basketball returned to Miami in 1985 with the Hurricanes ultimately joining the Big East in 1991. Times were tough initially, but head coach Leonard Hamilton slowly built the Hurricanes into a viable basketball program. Hamilton’s tenure ended with three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, culminating in a share of the Big East title in 2000, which was followed by Miami’s first trip to the Sweet 16.
Rejuvenated
When Hamilton left for the NBA in 2000, Miami once again fell off the college basketball map. A move to the ACC in 2004 didn’t make things any easier for the Hurricanes, who reached the NCAA Tournament just twice during the first decade of the 2000s.
However, Miami basketball was rejuvenated by the arrival of Jim Larrañaga in 2011. In just his second season, Larrañaga led the Hurricanes to their first ACC regular-season and tournament championships, as well as the program’s second trip to the Sweet 16. The Hurricanes made another Sweet 16 appearance in 2016, confirming that Miami is capable of competing in the best conference in college basketball. While Miami is far from being a basketball powerhouse like the football team, the days of the Hurricanes being overlooked on the hardwood are long over.
