Northeastern Basketball Tickets
Like so many prominent mid-majors in college basketball, the Northeastern Huskies have made quite an impressive climb. It used to be easy to find cheap Northeastern basketball tickets when the Huskies were a Division II program. Even during their early days at the Division I level, the program didn’t get much attention. However, the Huskies have done a great job of climbing the ladder and developing a strong following. Today, last-minute Northeastern basketball tickets are in high demand with the Huskies being one of the top mid-majors in New England.
The Glory of the 80s
Despite some success as a Division II program in the 1960s, Northeastern basketball put itself on the map in the 1980s under Hall of Fame head coach Jim Calhoun. Over many years, Calhoun built the Huskies into a quality program, eventually taking Northeastern to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 1981. The Huskies won their first-ever NCAA Tournament game, an upset of Fresno State. That season kicked off a run of six NCAA Tournament appearances in seven years, as the Huskies became the pre-eminent program in the America East Conference.
Rebuilding with Bill
As expected, Northeastern had difficulty maintaining its dominance in the America East after Calhoun left the program for UConn. However, longtime coach Bill Coen orchestrated a similar rebuilding project when he took over the Huskies in 2006, one season after they made the leap to the Colonial Athletic Association, one of the best mid-major conferences in the country. In 2013, Coen led Northeastern to the CAA regular-season title. Two years later, he brought the Huskies back to the NCAA Tournament, snapping a 24-year drought for the program. Since then, Northeastern has continued its ascent as one of the best programs in the Colonial. The Huskies won a share of the regular-season title in 2018 and made another NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019, setting the stage for a bright future.
