About The Forum

The Forum

The Forum is located in Los Angeles, California and can accommodate 17,500 people. The building looks like it came out of ancient Greece with its huge pillars and monumental entrances. However, despite its size, The Forum was one of the few indoor arenas to be constructed using absolutely no major supporting pillars. The Forum opened in 1967 and is so majestic that it can be spotted while approaching the Los Angeles International Airport from the plane. The Forum was recognized as one of the best indoor sports arenas, alongside Madison Square Garden. Over the years it underwent many name changes including, The Forum Presented by Chase, the Great Western Forum, and the L.A. Forum.

When it first opened, The Forum became famous due to its tenants, the NBA’s Lakers. The Lakers called The Forum home until 1999 when they moved to the Staples Center. The NHL’s LA Kings also called The Forum home for a little while, until moving to a different stadium in 1999. Along with NBA games, The Forum also hosts tennis matches, boxing matches, concerts, and even political events. The Forum is also set to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

What’s so special about The Forum?

Besides being built with no major supporting pillars, or its fame due to the Lakers' success, the Forum has witnessed some amazing celebrities and musical performances. Elvis Presley played at The Forum in 1970 and so did Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, The Eagles, and many others.
