Oklahoma Football Tickets
For over a century, the Oklahoma Sooners have been one of the best teams in college football. Year after year, it’s difficult to find cheap Oklahoma football tickets because the program is accustomed to playing at a high level and competing for championships. Things aren’t likely to change anytime soon. In fact, one could say that the Sooners are as good now as they’ve ever been, keeping last-minute Oklahoma football tickets in high demand.
Bennie and the Sooners
Bennie Owen was the first great coach in OU history, coaching the Sooners from 1905 to 1926. The Hall of Famer also coached OU basketball and baseball during that time while compiling a record of 122-54-16 on the gridiron. Owen’s tenure included a 10-0 season in 1915 that saw OU win the Southwest Conference championship during its first season in the league.
The Fabulous 40s
In the 1940s, OU began what most would consider a dynasty that would last close to two decades. Playing in the Big Six (ultimately becoming the Big Seven and Big Eight) Conference, the Sooners won the conference title every year from 1946 to 1959. Hall of Fame coach Bud Wilkinson oversaw much of this era, which included three undefeated seasons and six more seasons in which OU lost just one game. More importantly, Wilkinson helped the Sooners capture their first three national championships in 1950, 1955, and 1956. Oklahoma’s dominance would continue in the decades to come behind coaches like Chuck Fairbanks and Barry Switzer, largely because of the dynasty that Wilkinson built.
The Legend and his Apprentice
Oklahoma’s next great coaching legend was Bob Stoops, who won a national championship in 2000, just his second season at the helm. Stoops took the Sooners to a bowl game in all 18 of his seasons. He also led OU to 10 Big 12 titles and 11 top-10 finishes. When Stoops retired after the 2016 season, he passed the torch to Lincoln Riley, who has had no problem keeping the Sooners on top of the Big 12 and in the national spotlight, continuing OU’s quest for another national championship.
