About the Appalachian State Football

Appalachian State Football Tickets

Over the last few decades, there might be no better story in college football than the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The program’s ascension has been nothing short of miraculous. Throughout the 1990s, the Mountaineers were just another FCS program, and cheap Appalachian State football tickets were widely available. Today, the Mountaineers are a dominant force in the Sun Belt Conference and one of the best mid-major programs in the country. With that comes a dedicated fanbase that eagerly snatches up last-minute App State football tickets for every game.

Light the Spark

Sparky Woods was the head coach who started App State’s rise to the top. In 1986 and 1987, Woods led the Mountaineers to their first conference championships in over 30 years, as well as the program’s first appearance in the FCS playoffs. In 1989, Sparks passed the torch to Jerry Moore, who continued to make Appalachian State regulars in the FCS playoffs. Eventually, Moore took the Mountaineers to the next level, winning three straight FCS national championships from 2005 to 2007. The 2007 campaign also included Appalachian State’s monumental upset of Michigan, which remains one of the greatest upsets in college football history.

The Sun King

Moore continued to make App State an FCS powerhouse, but he took the Mountaineers as far as he could. Scott Satterfield took hold of the program in 2013, and one year later, the Mountaineers made the jump to the FBS level as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. It took just three seasons until App State won its first Sun Belt championship. After that, it became a yearly occurrence with the Mountaineers quickly becoming the league’s pre-eminent program. When Satterfield left after the 2018 season, the Mountaineers had become such a well-oiled machine that there was no drop-off, leaving little doubt that Appalachian State is poised to remain a Sun Belt powerhouse for many years to come.
