It’s no secret that the state of Georgia loves college football, and that includes lower-level programs like the Savannah State Tigers. Even with a rather uneven history, cheap Savannah State football tickets have long been difficult to find. The Tigers are one of the oldest programs among historically black colleges and have made a meaningful impact in the history of college football. Given that history, the fanbase always has hope that better days are ahead, keeping last-minute Savannah State football tickets in high demand.

Finding Their Way

After starting the Savannah State football program in 1902, the Tigers started to hit their stride in the 1930s and 40s. While competing at the Division II level in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Tigers had a winning record in all but two seasons from 1938 to 1951. During that time, Savannah State won three conference championships, adding another one in 1956. The Tigers got on another hot run in the late 80s and early 90s when they put together eight straight winning seasons and made the Division II Playoffs for the first time in program history.

Coming Home

The Tigers took a chance in 2000 when they moved to the FCS level, eventually joining the MEAC. But while that brought Savannah State to its fellow HBCU institutions, it left the Tigers a little out of their league. After suffering through one losing season after another, Savannah State returned home in 2019, returning to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the Division II level. The move paid immediate dividends for the Tigers, who went 7-3 in 2019. It was a sign that Savannah State is back where the Tigers belong and have set themselves up for a promising future.
