North Carolina Football Tickets

Even if it’s a basketball school, the North Carolina Tar Heels still know a thing or two about playing football. The Tar Heels play in a power conference and have plenty of rivalries, making it hard to find cheap North Carolina football tickets. Plus, UNC has churned out plenty of NFL-caliber players and enjoyed several periods of sustained success during the program’s long history. Most importantly, the Tar Heels continue to push to become a top-flight program, helping to keep up the demand for last-minute North Carolina football tickets.

The Spectacular 70s

While success has always been sporadic for North Carolina football, the Tar Heels had a great run of sustained success under Bill Dooley in the 1970s. Dooley arrived in 1967 and rebuilt the program enough to get North Carolina to the Peach Bowl in 1970. That was followed by back-to-back ACC championships in 1971 and 1972, as well as another conference title in 1977. Between 1970 and 1977, Dooley led the Tar Heels to six bowl games, three conference titles, and three top-25 finishes, giving the program a taste of success.

Mack is Back

Dooley passed the reins to Dick Crum, who led UNC to another conference title in 1980 and a pair of top-10 finishes. In 1988, he passed the torn to Mack Brown, who had to start from scratch, with the Tar Heels going 1-10 in each of his first two seasons. However, Brown would eventually take North Carolina to six straight bowl games with the Tar Heels finishing top-10 nationally in each of the last two years of his first stint at UNC. After the program fell on some hard times, Brown returned to the Tar Heels in 2019, quickly making North Carolina a top-25 program and perennial bowl participant, opening the door for future success.
