The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are one of the newest football programs to make the jump to FCS football. For now, fans can expect to find cheap Coastal Carolina football tickets. But that isn’t going to be the case forever. Since playing their inaugural season in 2003, the Chanticleers have made incredible progress in a short period of time. If the program continues on its current trajectory, it won’t be long until the Chanticleers are one of the top mid-major programs in the country. There is already a high demand for last-minute CCU football tickets, as the Chanticleers have quickly become a popular team for football fans in the Carolinas to watch closely.

Founding Father

Coastal Carolina experienced immediate success upon starting a football program in 2003 under head coach David Bennett. In the second season in program history, the Chanticleers finished 10-1 and were crowned Big South Conference champions. Bennett ended up leading the Chanticleers to four conference titles and two FCS Playoff appearances in his nine seasons at Coastal Carolina. He jump-started the program, putting the Chanticleers on a path toward long-term success.

The Big Time

Joe Moglia succeeded Bennett as CCU’s head coach in 2012 and immediately led the Chanticleers to three straight Big South titles. That stretch also included two trips to the FCS Quarterfinals in 2013 and 2014, with the Chanticleers winning 12 games in each season. Such success set up Coastal Carolina to move up to the FBS level in 2017, immediately joining the Sun Belt Conference. Naturally, the transition was a difficult one, as Moglia ultimately passed the reins to Jamey Chadwell in 2019. However, a 2019 win over Kansas was CCU’s first over a power-conference opponent in program history. It was just one more sign that the Chanticleers are a program on the rise and a team to watch closely in the years to come.
