The Mid-American Conference isn’t known as a football heavyweight, but the Bowling Green Falcons are one of the few programs in the MAC that has a proud football history. The Namesake

Bowling Green’s home stadium is named after longtime head coach Doyt Perry, and for good reason. A former Bowling Green player, Perry helped the Falcons emerge as one of the pre-eminent programs in the MAC during the 1950s and 60s. In 10 seasons, Perry compiled a record of 77-11-5 while leading the Falcons to five conference championships. He retired to become the school’s athletic director after leading Bowling Green to the 1964 MAC championship and remains the most influential person in program history.

The Long Lineage

After Perry, plenty of great head coaches have found a temporary home at Bowling Green along their coaching journey and accomplished great things as head coach of the Falcons. Urban Meyer got his first head coaching job at Bowling Green, going 17-6 over two seasons despite inheriting a program that had endured six straight losing seasons. Before becoming the head coach at Wake Forest, Dave Clawson led the Falcons to three bowls in five seasons, ending his tenure with the 2013 MAC championship. He was followed by Dino Babers, who took Bowling Green to back-to-back MAC title games, winning the 2015 championship to continue Bowling Green’s history of winning championships.
