LANY
Bands come together in a range of ways. Sometimes there’s one person who thinks “I want to make a band,” while other times it happens rather organically. LANY came together organically when Paul Jason Klein met Leslie Priest and Jake Goss. Goss and Priest were working on a project of their own, which they decided to put aside (or merge) into a band.
They decided to call their band LANY (Lan-ee), which represents LA and NY, two big cities on either side of the country. The idea was that their success would span the distance between the cities (IE, all of America).
The Band’s Experience
Each member of the band studied music professionally, in some form, before the three met. That gave them the knowledge and composing experience they’d need to do what they did next. Which was to put out two EP’s and two singles within the first year of performing together.
Their successful and almost-immediate release allowed them to tour with artists as prominent as Halsey and Ellie Goulding (to name a few). After building their fanbase as openers, they signed with Polydor Records in 2015. Their next EP, Make Out, included the song “ILYSB,” which rose to internet-streaming fame.
The Big Time
The mid-twenty-teens was a great time for the band to debut, as in the early ’00s, alt-rock groups were dying down, or taking a break. LANY came in just in time to fill that gap, without being too similar and falling into the “another one of the same” trap. Their music is a little bit 80’s and a little bit 90’s, with that emotional edge we get in alt-rock. In a time where the ’90s are back – LANY is the band everyone is listening to.
