Georgia State Basketball Tickets
The Georgia State Panthers are relatively new to big-time college basketball, but they’ve already managed to make a lot of noise in a short period of time. The program has quickly gained a following, creating a high-demand for last-minute Georgia State basketball tickets. Thanks to several notable coaches, the Panthers have become a Sun Belt powerhouse and one of the top mid-majors in the country, creating a shortage of cheap Georgia State basketball tickets.
Luck of the Lefty
Outside of the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1991, Georgia State basketball experienced little on-court success until the arrival of coach Lefty Driesell in 1997. The Panthers became the last stop in the Hall of Famer’s career. Driesell rebuilt the program from the ground up, leading Georgia State to its first regular-season conference championship in 2000. A year later, Driesell guided the Panthers on an unforgettable 29-5 season that included Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season and tournament titles. More importantly, it ended with Georgia State’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win.
On the Hunt
After Driesell retired, the Panthers fell on some hard times. However, things picked up again after Ron Hunter was hired as the GSU head coach in 2011. In 2013, Hunter led the Panthers into the Sun Belt Conference, where they won the regular-season championship in their first two seasons in their new conference. In 2015, Georgia State returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since Driesell took them in 2001. As a no. 14 seed, the Panthers upset Baylor in the first round, renewing their reputation as a giant killer. Hunter took Georgia State to the Big Dance again in 2018 and 2019 before leaving the program. However, the program he left for Rob Lanier in 2019 is one that’s moving in the right direction and set up for long-term success in the Sun Belt Conference.
