Against the Current Tickets
There’s something unique about Against the Current. They have some of the emo sounds we loved in the ’00s, but without the part that makes you feel depressed for an hour afterward. Head-nodding beats uplift their semi-emo lyrics, that remind us of modern pop songs. At times you could see them singing Taylor Swift songs, while at others, you get more of a Panic! At the Disco vibes. But that’s what we love about them – they always keep us on our feet, with the way they always go…Against the Current. See what we did there?
Starting the Band
Against the Current, which is often abbreviated to ATC, started out in 2011. They were just a group of friends who lived in Poughkeepsie, NY, who liked jamming together. They started to be more than a jam band when they went online, posting covers on YouTube and gathering a host of online fans.
That YouTube success encouraged them to put out their first EP, Infinity, in 2014. They self-released the album out of necessity, as they did with their next offering, Gravity. That EP, Gravity, is what got them their first record deal, with Fueled by Ramen Records, which is owned by Warner Music.
Hitting the Bigtime
It was after signing with a record label that ATC started getting more than just internet success. Their first big-label debut album, In Our Bones, came out in 2016. The album didn’t chart, but it was called “pop-rock perfection” by Alternative Press magazine. They’ve yet to be nominated for any awards, but we expect that to change soon.
