Even in parts of the country that love college football, college basketball can’t be overlooked. And one program that has been picking up steam is the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Traditionally, cheap Charleston Southern basketball tickets have been easy to find, with the Buccaneers being another small-conference team. But the times are changing, with the Buccaneers starting to assert themselves as one of the better teams in the Big South Conference. That has helped to create more of a demand for last-minute Charleston Southern basketball tickets, making the Buccaneers a small-conference team that’s worth watching.

The First Time

Charleston Southern reached the big stage for the first time in 1997, winning the Big South Conference Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. It wasn’t the best season the Buccaneers have ever had, but in the conference tournament, they beat the top two seeds, UNC-Asheville and Liberty, to earn the Big South’s automatic bid. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers were a little out of their depth in the Big Dance, losing to UCLA 109-75 in the first round. However, it was Charleston Southern’s first taste of success on the basketball court.

Mr. Stability

Unlike most small-conference teams, Charleston Southern has stuck with one coach for the long term. Barclay Radebaugh took over the Buccaneers in 2005 and is still going strong. He’s brought a sense of stability to the program allowing the Buccaneers to find some consistency. Under Radebaugh, Charleston Southern won Big South regular-season championships in 2013 and 2015, sending the Buccaneers to the NIT in both seasons. He also guided the Buccaneers to the second round of the CIT in 2019, taking Charleston Southern one step closer to returning to the top of the Big South and the NCAA Tournament.
