Wright State Basketball Tickets
The midwest is full of strong and underrated college basketball programs, and the Wright State Red Raiders are one of them. Thanks to great coaching, the days of fans finding cheap Wright State basketball tickets are quickly coming to an end. The Red Raiders were once a great Division II program, and they are now starting to find their footing at the Division I level. With each passing year, the Red Raiders take a step forward, increasing the demand for last-minute Wright State basketball tickets among a growing fanbase.
Getting Started
Ralph Underhill is undoubtedly the most successful coach in Wright State basketball history. He took over the program in 1978 and led the Red Raiders to at least 20 wins in eight of his first nine seasons. The highlight of his tenure was the 1982-83 season in which the Red Raiders went 28-4 and won the Division II national championship. Underhill also led Wright State when they made the jump to the Division I level and became members of the Mid-Continent Conference during the 1991-92 season and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 1993.
Building a Dream
While Underhill is Wright State’s most memorable coach, he wasn’t the last coach to leave his mark on the program. Both Brad Brownell and Billy Donlon deserve credit for raising the profile of Wright State basketball. Brownell averaged 21 wins per season over his four years with the Red Raiders while taking them to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history in 2007. Donlon followed his footsteps and continued to make Wright State one of the top teams in the Horizon League.
On the Horizon
After Scott Nagy was hired as Wright State head coach in 2016, the Red Raiders took another huge step forward. In 2018, Nagy brought Wright State to the Big Dance for the third time in program history. That was followed by back-to-back Horizon League regular-season championships in 2019 and 2020. Given Wright State’s immediate success under Nagy, there is little doubt that the Red Raiders will remain a force to be reckoned with in the Horizon League for many years to come.
