About Shrine Expo Hall

Shrine Expo Hall

Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall is a multi-purpose entertainment venue that’s located on West Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles, just across the street from the University of Southern California. The auditorium has been open since 1926 and hosts performers and speakers regularly. It has also been used to host the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, and several other award ceremonies on several occasions. Both the 1953 and 2018 versions of the movie A Star is Born had scenes filmed there and many artists have recorded live albums while performing at the Shrine Auditorium. The Expo Hall is a separate venue that’s used for concerts that work best for standing-room-only audiences.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Shrine Expo Hall

Shrine Auditorium can hold up to 6,300 people for a performance. The seats will be in the center of the Orchestra Section on the lower level of the auditorium. Seats in the center of the Balcony on the upper level should also provide a good view of the stage, albeit from an elevated viewpoint. Some of the seats in the first few rows of the Balcony could offer a better view than the last few rows of the Orchestra Section. There are also two private boxes that sit above the Orchestra level which are close to the stage, as well as, seven loges on the same level as the Balcony. Meanwhile, the Shrine Expo Hall is general admission for all tickets with a capacity of around 5,000 people.

Tips for Visiting the Shrine Expo Hall

The Shrine Expo Hall has a rather extensive list of items that won’t be allowed into the venue. In addition to the obvious, items like gum, chapstick, eye drops, dusk masks, flyers, posters, and sharpies are not permitted. It’s best to check the full list on the Shrine website so you don’t accidentally bring an item that you’ll be forced to throw out. Many visitors also note that security does try to get people to leave as quickly as possible once the performance is over, so try not to get separated from your party.

Foods to Try at the Shrine Expo Hall

Other than pretzels at the bar, food is limited at the Shrine Expo Hall. However, there are plenty of quality restaurants to visit before or after a performance, although some are geared toward a college crowd. Blaze Pizza is one of the closet eateries to Shrine Expo Hall. A few blocks away, you can also find Ono Hawaiian BBQ and La Taquiza Mexican Grill.
