Brockhampton
Boy bands aren’t exactly what they used to be. Of course, hip hop isn’t what it used to be either. That’s particularly true when you have a group like Brockhampton that tries to combine the two radically different genres of music to create something new. Forming in 2010 as AliveSinceForever and rebranding as Brockhampton in 2014, the group has attempted to redefine the term Boy Band thanks to more than a dozen members who come from different backgrounds and try to blend together to create a new style of hip hop. Brockhampton is truly a musical act like no other and puts on one of the most unique stage shows music lovers will ever see in their lives.
Saturating the Market
During their early years, Brockhampton did its best to literally saturate the music market. The group’s first three albums all had the name Saturation, ultimately a Saturation trilogy box set. Along the way, Brockhampton had several hit songs, created several memorable music videos, and were the focus of a reality show called American Boyband in which fans got to go behind the scenes during the band’s early years. Anyone who saw the show knows that Brockhampton is far from your average boy band.
Growing Up
After experience success with the Saturation trilogy, Brockhampton endured some tough times and changes to the group’s lineup. But sometimes that’s part of being in the music industry. They persevered through the difficulty and continued to grow their audience through tours, appearances on late-night TV shows, and a new album called Iridescence. Even when lead man Kevin Abstract worked on solo projects, Brockhampton stayed together and continued to create a new and progressive sound.
The group even made the quarantine in 2020 work for them by releasing several songs they worked on outside of the studio. The sheer volume of music that Brockhampton has created in its short but productive history is nothing short of astounding. They have tapped into a new sound, and music lovers of all genres would be wise to keep their eye on Brockhampton moving forward.
