Active Bird Community Tickets
No one really understands creatives and what they do. Like why four teenage friends from Brooklyn would name their band Active Bird Community. Living in Brooklyn, we’re pretty sure the only active bird community they’ve ever seen are the omnipresent pigeons New York is plagued with.
Their odd name hasn’t seemed to keep them from success, however. From the time they started jamming together in 2005 to when they put together their first official EP in 2012 – the band has always been confident that they’d find success. Learn more about this garage-rock, radio pop mixture of a band, below.
Who is the Active Bird Community?
As we said, the band started back in 2005, thirteen years before the band would find a record deal with Barsuk records. In the beginning, it was just four friends jamming together, in middle school, in Hastings-on-Hudson. Part of the reason they had to wait so long to find commercial success was their age – no one was going to sign middle schoolers practicing in their garage!
And that fact would have discouraged most people their age, but not them. Tom D’Augustino, Andrew Wolfson, and Zach Slater knew they had something special, and they kept at it. They eventually added Quinn McGovern to their band, solidifying some great drumlines for their upcoming (and first) EP.
Drive Like Your Kids Live Here
Not only is that good advice if you drive in residential areas, but it’s the name of ABC’s first EP that came out in 2012. It was followed by I’ve Been Going Swimming, and Stick Around, in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
The bands’ dedication and refusal to quit on themselves led to a record deal in 2018. That allowed them to put out their first major-label studio album, Amends. With the trajectory the band has had, we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re selling out arenas on their next tour.
