About Orioles vs. Guardians

Orioles vs Guardians Tickets

Baseball has its fair share of bitter rivalries and intense intra-divisional battles, but sometimes there’s nothing better than seeing two of the older franchises in the history of the game sharing the same diamond. For example, the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Guardians have both been a franchise in one form or another since 1901. Whether these teams are among the best in baseball at the moment or not, each has played an important role in baseball history, and it’s always a delight to see two teams like that play against one another.

Orioles vs Guardians

In fairness, there’s no simmering rivalry between the Orioles and Guardians. However, the two franchises are familiar with one another after both played in the AL East from 1969 to 1993. They also played a pair of memorable postseason series against one another in 1996 and 1997 when both were among the elite teams in the American League. First, the Orioles knocked off the Guardians in the 1996 ALDS, although Cleveland got its revenge the following year, beating Baltimore in the ALCS to win the pennant for the second time in three seasons.

The other thing the Orioles and Guardians have in common is that both helped begin the trend of modern, downtown ballparks. In 1992, the Orioles opened Camden Yards (hosting the Guardians in the opener, oddly enough), a stadium with enormous amounts of charm that was built in the heart of Charm City. The Guardians followed in 1994 with a new stadium of their own. Now known as Progressive Field, the stadium has a great downtown location and is still ranked among the top ballparks in the majors.
