About Braves vs. Padres

Braves vs Padres Tickets

While most fans don’t realize it, the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres have a lot of history, and most of it is filled with hate and animosity. Keep in mind that these teams shared a division from 1969 to 1993, so they’re quite familiar with one another. Technically, this is one of the more lopsided rivalries in baseball with Atlanta dominating San Diego for many years. However, the Braves and Padres have shared fisticuffs and postseason battles over the years, setting the foundation for a rivalry that could reignite at any time.

Braves vs Padres

The tension between the Braves and Padres dates back to the 1984 season when they both took up residence in the NL West. Despite some distance between them, they were the two best teams in the division with the Padres finishing on top. In August, the two teams engaged in one of the most memorable brawls in baseball history. It lasted for several minutes and even included a few fans getting involved and being led away in handcuffs. More than a decade later, the Braves and Padres battled on the field in the 1998 NLCS. San Diego won the first three games of the series, ultimately winning in six games to end Atlanta’s season despite the Braves winning 106 games during the regular season, the most in franchise history.

Of course, the Padres and Braves are both playing in different stadiums than they were when their rivalry was born. The Braves now make their home in Truist Park, which is one of MLB’s newest stadiums. With beautiful aesthetics and first-class amenities like high-speed Wi-Fi, Truist Park has everything a fan could ever want. Meanwhile, San Diego’s Petco Park doesn’t lag far behind in the fan experience. It has a downtown setting, plenty of charm, and a grassy berm that helps fans combine a day at the park with a day at the ballpark.
