About Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre

Ak-Chin Pavilion

With a combined seating capacity of more than 20,000, the Ak-Chin Pavilion is pretty much the largest outdoor amphitheater in all of Phoenix, Arizona. This open-air pavilion has some stiff competition, too, so that’s a major accomplishment – in a neighborhood where major venues like the Talking Stick Resort and the Gila River Arena vie for attention, it takes a big bad mother to stand out. And you better believe that the Ak-Chin Pavilion does just that!

History of the Ak-Chin Pavilion

Opening in November of 1990 with a sold-out performance of Billy Joel, the Ak-Chin Pavilion hit the ground running. Designed to have around 8,000 seats set under its open-air pavilion and have room for another 12,000 on the expansive lawn surrounding it, the venue has been a rock-solid performance space for nearly three decades.

In fact, the only thing that has really changed over the years has been its name: first, it was just the Desert Sky Pavilion, then it was the Blockbuster Desert Sky Pavilion, and then it was the Cricket Pavilion for about five minutes before being renamed – wait for it – the Cricket Wireless Pavilion. Then it was known by the unfortunate name as the Ashley Furniture HomeStore Pavilion. You’d best believe there were a lot of sighs of relief when the Ak-Chin Indian Community stepped in to buy the naming rights in 2014!

What Makes Ak-Chin Pavilion Events So Special?

You wouldn’t think that Phoenix would be smack dab in the center of the music scene but thanks to the Ak-Chin Pavilion the city gets major names each and every year. This means that if you ever want to see your favorite famous band, you just need to wait for the warmer months – they’ll be paying a visit to the Ak-Chin Pavilion, guaranteed. What a time to be alive!
