One genre ruled the 2010s. What was it? EDM, Electronic Dance Music, Electronica, Dubstep, or whatever else you want to call it. We saw it take off in the early 2010s with artists like Skrillex and Tiesto, who brought people together to jump-dance and eagerly await the “drop.” Now, in the next decade, there are more EDM artists than we can name – and more coming out every day! If you’re old enough, you may even remember Thissongissick.com, which is still a great place to learn about new artists.
If you were paying attention about five years ago, then you may have seen the up and coming band, 888 featured on that site (and similar ones). The group is a mashup, if you will, Drop Dead and Gorgeous, and is centered in Denver.
Making the Band
Danny Stillman, Aaron Rothe, and Danny Cooper make up the new(ish) band, 888. They all have previous music experience, some more professionally than others. The band came together when Drop Dead and Gorgeous’ time ended, and the members felt there was an opening in the market. You can think of their music as Emo-EDM if you will. Some like to compare them to Breathe Carolina, but we prefer to relate them to their fellow Colorado locals – 3OH!3.
The Decades
Once they had their band figured out, they put together the EP, The Decades, in the middle of the twenty-teens. You may know it for the hit single off that album, Critical Mistakes. That was the song that made people really start paying attention to the novel trio. They’ve yet to produce a true studio album (at the time of this writing), but we’re expecting one very soon. Until then, your best bet at hearing any relatively new 888 music is to catch them on tour.
