About Desert Diamond Arena

Gila River Arena

Just over 12 miles from downtown Phoenix, the Gila River Arena rises triumphantly from the Arizona desert as the jewel of the Glendale suburbs. A thoroughly modern indoor multi-purpose stadium, this cutting-edge arena stands ready to offer fans the best experience whether they’re catching a hockey game, a music concert, or any other event.

History of the Gila River Arena

Built in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale in 2003, the Gila River Arena was a much-needed upgrade for the Arizona Coyotes, as their previous home, the Talking Stick Resort Arena, was too cramped for a regulation-size NHL rink. The team’s new digs are much more spacious thanks to its more than 17,000 seats’ capacity.

The Coyotes play all their home games at Gila River Arena ever since they moved there in the early 2000s. Being a multi-purpose venue means that Gila River Arena events include professional bull riding, local high school volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, wrestling, and many more sports events throughout the year.

Besides pro sports, the arena hosts big-name music acts as well. While it competes with Talking Stick Arena for some of the biggest names, Gila River Arena concerts have included Bette Midler, Tool, Post Malone, Cher, Chance the Rapper, and countless others.

What’s so special about Gila River Arena events?

Gila River Arena events are always incredible. Since opening its doors, this venue has become the living, beating heart of the Phoenix suburbs thanks to its state-of-the-art design. Featuring a pair of concourses and seating levels that provide an open view of the ice from every angle, this arena puts fans’ experience first. Whether you’re sitting in the up-close-and-personal seating bowl or you’re living it up in one of the almost 90 luxury suites, there’s no such thing as a bad seat at the Gila River Arena!
