The History of Coachella
Before it was all over your Instagram feed, Coachella was the brainchild of Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen. They put together the first baby festival in 1999, with help from Goldenvoice, which is run by AEG Presents.
Rumor has it that the founders were inspired by a 1993 Pearl Jam festival at the current Coachella location, but we aren’t sure. Since that fledgling year, Coachella Music Festival has gone from a hundred guests to thousands and has had to expand to multiple weekends.
